Welcome to Infotechtools. We both have same background but are into different applications. I am in computational structural mechanics and I noticed that you are also interested in computational methods. For the last few years I have been promoting symbolic computations and one of the member who joined here yesterday Bowo is also interested in it from progarmming aspects of it. He is currently a doctoral student at University of Tokyo and his Ph.D. dissertation is in the area of "data mining". I wrote this into his introduction and I think you will find this information useful
Please visit Bowo's web site
http://www.my-tools.com He has created a web service for a very useful program Maxima
Those of us who are from Engineering, Math and computer science will find this program very useful. It does both, symbolic algebra calculations and also numerical calculations.
The program is open source and free. So try it out. If you need to see some examples try his page on my-tools and on Facebook and look into help.

I am also interested into the use of computers in communication/collaboration aspects and this course here is to promote that.
We are in the 12th week of the semester and 4 more to go. Please feel to move around this website.
Most of the course related activity is is in video section as reading material and forum section for discussion. Right now we are in forum topic 10.
Let me know if you have any questions etc.
